Halloween hasn't even arrived, yet the scares have already begun. Case in point: "Annabelle."
The movie is doing well as it now has surpassed the $200M mark just recently, racking up $50M in a week. Variety has the details:
"The low-budget horror film topped foreign box office charts this weekend, pulling in $26.5 million and pushing it past the $200 million mark. Produced for just $6.7 million, the spinoff to “The Conjuring” has generated $206.9 million globally. The film owes its win to Mexican audiences, who gave it a record opening for a horror film and the best premiere for a non-3D movie this year. It generated $11.7 million in Mexico and also picked up a superb $11.5 million in Brazil, where it has been showing for three weeks."
But is "Annabelle" worth watching?
Scott Foundas of Variety has this to say:
"The scares are cheap but periodically effective in "Annabelle," a cut-rate spinoff from James Wan's superlative haunted-house hit "The Conjuring" that (partly) makes up in crude shock effects what it lacks in craft, atmosphere and just about every other department. Designed mainly as a starring vehicle for the eponymous, creepy-as-hell doll (who easily outclasses her human co-stars), this WB/New Line quickie will slake the thirst of die-hard genre fans put out by the abysmal "Dracula Untold." Mere casual fright fans are advised to wait for the proper sequel, "The Conjuring 2," due in 2015."

For the curious, here is a short description of the film from Wikipedia:
"The film starts with the same opening scene from The Conjuring, in 1968, in which two young women and a young man are telling Ed and Lorraine Warren about their experiences with a doll called Annabelle they believe to be haunted."
"In 1967, John and Mia Form are expecting their first child. John gives her a doll that she has been trying to find. Mia loves it and puts it with the rest of her doll collection, saying that she 'its right in.'"
