It's official. Park Shi Hoo has confirmed that he will star in the film "Love After Love." The film will serve as his first post-scandal comeback in Korea.
According to the actor's agency, Hoo Factory, "Park Shi Hoo feels both excited and pressured to be making his comeback to the big screen in Korea after two years. He has already begun to analyze his character."
In "Love After Love," he plays Kim Sung Joon, an airline employee and former pilot. He can no longer fly planes because of problems with his hearing and now he is assigned to the ground crew. But Kim Sung Joon is grounded in more ways than one. He can't fly because of a hearing problem. He also can't love properly because he doesn't know how. The film is titled "Love After Love" because Kim Sung Joon only realizes that his wife was the love of his life after he loses her.
Kim Sung Joon meets his wife Eun Hong on a blind date and marries her without being in love with her. Due to his workaholic ways, he treats her badly. When she dies suddenly, he realizes what he has lost.
Park Shi Hoo has not worked in Korea since early 2013. Shortly following the success of his drama "Cheomdamdong Alice," he was involved in a scandal when a rookie actress claimed that he sexually assaulted her. He denied the charges saying their relations were consensual and the charges were eventually dropped. But the allegations had a negative effect on his career. Public opinion turned against him and he has not worked in Korea since.
Despite the controversy, his popularity remained steady in Japan and China. His film "Confession of a Murder" was released late in 2012 and generated good box office results in Japan. He also appeared in and received good reviews for the Chinese film "Scent" which co-starred Chinese actress Chen Ran.
He was up for a role in the drama "Golden Cross," but public sentiment was negative. He ultimately declined the role.
"Love After Love" will be directed by Eo Il Seon, who directed "Plastic Tree" and "Between." The director won a Mannheim-Heidelberg Award for "Plastic Tree."
"Love After Love" begins filming on Jeju Island in November. It will premiere in May 2015.
The actor had a fan meeting in Japan on Sept. 28 and will meet with Japanese fans again on Nov. 5.
