Actress Jung Yu Mi is tired of crying and hopes that her next role will be a comedy. The actress, who shares a name with Jung Yu Mi, the star of "Discovery of Love," recently starred in the weekday drama "Mother's Garden." The weekday drama included plenty of emotional scenes and ended its run on Sept. 18.
In "Mother's Garden," Jung Yu Mi played Yoon Joo, a woman who comes from a wealthy family. She works as a vet and specializes in caring for horses. Yoon Joo is in love with a man who also comes from a wealthy family. But having lived a privileged life does not protect her from pain. When her father loses his money she is forced to reconsider the meaning of family. The drama explored the different ways that people are related to and relate to each other.
The actress spoke to the Chosun Ilbo recently about the feelings her role in the drama evoked.
"The drama actually gave me a chance to be thankful for my mother who brought me into the world," she said. "I also realized again the importance of being married and having a family."
Jung's own mother was a faithful fan of the drama.
"My mother watched all the episodes which included many tearful scenes, and cried every time that I cried in the drama," she said.
The 30-year-old actress has been acting since 2003 but she had her first leading role in 2013 when she played the quick-tempered Go Young Chae in "Wonderful Mama."
Since her debut she has appeared in almost two-dozen dramas and films. But she may be best known for her roles in the dramas "A Thousand Days Promise" and "Rooftop Prince." She was a sweet girlfriend in "A Thousand Days Promise" but a pretty despicable villain in "Rooftop Prince." In the fantasy fusion saeguk, she played the scheming princess/secretary, who betrayed her sweet half-sister played by Han Ji Min to get closer to Park Yoochun. Her "Rooftop Prince" character was so despicable that one viewer commented online that she refused to see the actress in other dramas. Her performances earned her SBS awards for both of those dramas.
In her various roles, the actress has been bad and sad, but in the future, she hopes for some funny lighter roles. In real life, she says she is actually very cheerful and optimistic.
"Now, I want to do a brighter role or even try some funny characters," she told The Chosun Ilbo.
