It seems like a long time since actor Yoo Seung Ho enlisted but he will soon be released from his mandatory military duty. The actor will attend his military dismissal ceremony in Kangwon-Do on Dec. 4.
All Korean males are required to serve up to two years of military duty between the ages of 18 and 35. Many actors prefer to wait until they are older and have established their acting careers. Yoo Seung Ho was unusual in that he chose to serve his duty at a young age. Yoo was only 19 when he enlisted but he has been acting since he was nine so his career was already well established. He has appeared in two-dozen dramas and almost a dozen films, winning almost a dozen awards.
The actor did not want any special celebrity treatment while he served in the military. He wanted to be an ordinary soldier. He worked hard and became as a military instructor for new recruits.
To honor the end of his service, his agency, San Entertainment, has released an announcement thanking his fans for their continued support.
"We appreciate the love and support from his fans. He could successfully complete his military life all thanks to your support and concerns. He will get back to you refreshed with a new image after the dismissal. Until then, he will do his best to wrap up the last days in the military successfully.
While the actor served in the military, he was still courted by drama producers. His agency said he received several proposals for upcoming projects, including one titled "The Joseon Magician." But he has made no decisions about upcoming projects.
His first activity following his release from service will be a tour. The tour is his way of saying thank you to the fans that remained loyal despite his long absence. He will conduct a series of fan meetings in Korea, Japan and China, before deciding on his next drama role.
His last acting project before enlistment was the 2013 melodrama "I Miss You." In that drama he played Park Yoochun's romantic rival and Yoon Eun Hye's protector, although his motives for protecting her character were far from pure. He also played the romantic lead in "Operation Proposal" and the Jade Emperor in "Arang and the Magistrate." His last film was a short 3D film titled "Pieces of Memory."
