Jang Dong Gun transforms into a world-class homme fatale. Will he be able to beat Lee Byung Hun and So Ji Sup?
The title of the movie is 'Dangerous Liaisons'. The story is about Jang Dong Gun who plays Xie Yifan, the reigning playboy of Shanghai, and how he makes a bet with Mo Jieyu (played by Cecilia Cheung), queen of the socialites, over the love of virtuous widow, Du Fenyu (played by Zhang Ziyi).
There is a lot of attention on whether Jang Dong Gun will be able to win over the audience in the amidst of battle between Lee Byung Hun's movie, 'Masquerade', which is currently reigning at the box office, and So Ji Sup, who has finally comeback with a film for the first time in a long time.
The mood is not bad. Although So Ji Sup's movie, 'The Company Man', currently has sold more tickets in advance, 'Dangerous Liaisons' set a record as the tickets for the screening at the 17th Busan International Film Festival sold out in 12 seconds. The movie also received great reviews in succession by critics at the official screening at the Gala Presentation, leading to more anticipation. This means that the movie now has a good chance of surpassing 'The Company Man' in advanced ticket sales.
Also, all of the movies released recently are all provocative movies so director Hur Jin Ho threw the dice with a traditional melodramatic movie. With his sensational directing skills, the positive reviews of the movie are just pouring out. Movie critic Oh Dong Jin highly praised the movie on his Twitter, "'Dangerous Liaisons' is another one of Hur Jin Ho's best movies." Movie critic Hwang Jin Mi complimented the movie and said, "It was a great feeling to be watching the actors in such an exciting place and time! I liked how it ended differently than the original novel."
Jang Dong Gun is receiving high praise for his playboy character as the character is reminiscent of Clark Gable. It will be interesting to see how the movie 'Dangerous Liaisons' will fair at the box office.
