Bad news, "Covert Affairs" fans: the hit series has officially been canceled by USA. Piper Perabo, who stars as protagonist Annie Walker, has reacted to this news on twitter in both disappointment and appreciation. Season 5, which aired its finale on December 18, will be function as the final season of the political drama.

After learning the news about the axing of Covert Affairs, Piper Perabo addressed the situation on Twitter.

"Thanks for all love for @CovertAffairs I will miss it but am so happy to have made so many great friends through it. Love you guys, xp," wrote an emotional Perabo as she thanked her fans for their support.

The actress, who shot to fame 15 years ago as the star of "Coyote Ugly," played undercover CIA agent Annie Walker for 5 years. Earning a 2011 Golden Globe nomination, a 75K weekly salary, and a loyal family base, it once seemed like nothing could stop the show from cable domination.

Season 5 concluded in a major cliffhanger for both Piper Perabo (Annie) and co-star Christopher Gorham (Auggie). "Annie was contemplating a marriage proposal and an offer to join a CIA task force and Auggie...was planning to leave the spy agency," explains USA Today.

"No plans have been announced regarding whether there will be an effort to resolve those storylines somewhere else," conceded USA Today, leaving fans wondering whether they will ever learn the fate of their beloved characters.

The show's cancellation was likely due to its tumbling ratings. According to the Hollywood Reporter, "In its heyday, Covert Affairs - produced by NBCUni's cable-focused Universal Cable Productions -regularly averaged 5 million total viewers in live-plus-same-day returns."

"Its recent fifth season hit a series low of 1.1 million viewers in November, leading up to an average of about 1.5 million," explained THR.

Nonetheless, "Covert Affairs" was not the only series to get the boot from USA's 2015 programming schedule. "White Collar" and "Rush" were also cancelled by the network to make room for new series such as "Dig," "Mr. Robot," "Complications," "Stanistan," "Colony," "Queen of the South," and "Evil Men."
