Every good detective story needs a mystery. In the soon-to-be-released adventure comedy "Detective K: The Laborer's Daughter," Lee Yeon Hee supplies some of the film's mystery along with plenty of Joseon-era style.
In the film Lee Yeon Hee plays a beautiful and mysterious woman named Hasako. Her character sometimes comes to the aid of the genius detective Kim Min, played by Kim Myung Min. And sometimes she mysteriously foils his plans.
Although he is fascinated by her beauty and charm, he is not sure he can count on her. And he needs to have her as an ally because he is trying to solve two cases at once. One of his investigations delves into a counterfeiting ring whose work threatens the financial stability of the Joseon dynasty. The film's action takes place in 1795 in the Joseon capital of Hanyang, which became the modern city of Seoul.
In the film's poster, Lee Yeon Hee looks the part of a femme fatale, wearing a purple kimono embellished with flowery embroidery. Her last small screen role also capitalized on her good looks, as she played a beauty pageant contestant in the drama "Miss Korea." This year she will also play Princess Jung Myung in the drama "Splendid Politics."
Lee Myung Min's detective Kim Min may be a genius but he's also a clumsy oaf, whose efforts to unravel scandals often land him in trouble. The actor displays his talent for comedy in the role of Kim Min. His last small screen appearance was a more serious turn and concerned the often unethical behavior of lawyers. He played Kim Suk Joo, a cold-hearted attorney with amnesia in "A New Leaf."
"Detective K: The Laborer's Daughter" is a sequel to the "Detective K: Secret of the Virtuous Widow," which was considered a box office success. According to Hancinema, the first installment of the Detective K films sold 4.7 million tickets during the 2011 New Year holidays.
The original Detective K film starred Kim Myung Min with Han Ji Min playing the beautiful woman that fascinated him. Oh Dal Soo, who appeared in the original film and also in the hit film "The Attorney," will revive his role as Kim Min's comic sidekick.
The original film's production team also worked on the sequel. That team includes Kim Suk Yun, who directed the film and also produces television entertainment shows such as "Shinhwa Bropadcast: Season 2."
"Detective K: The Laborer's Daughter" will be released in February 2015.
