Han Ye Seul's k-drama career has been a bumpy one but things seem to be going smoother these days.

Around the time she started her career in k-dramas and k-movies she also had to adjust to life in Korea after having been raised in the U.S.

"I've been in this biz for about 14 years now and if I had to pick out the toughest time of my career it was when I was brand new," Han told Star News "I had just come to Korea from the States and I missed it so much. I didn't have friends and I had to deal with a whole bunch of schedules. It was really tough. It was do or die for me."

And the "Birth of a Beauty" star also had a tough time when she was filming her last drama "Spy Myung Wol." Exhaustion forced her to flee the set of the drama and disappear for a few days. She left the country for Los Angeles, citing poor working conditions. She said that she felt so desperate that she was prepared to abandon her career.

"I had let go of everything back then. It was beyond imaginable".

Han Ye Seul eventually agreed to return to the set but her absence had the potential to harm her casting chances. Fortunately, it did not. On the set of her next drama "Birth of a Beauty" producer Lee Chang Min took her passport and said "She's not going anywhere."

Making a joke out of her previous departure lightened the mood. Partly because of that she enjoyed working on the drama so much she did not want it to end.

"I received many text messages after the drama," she said. "The producer made me laugh and it made me feel good. I didn't want to leave the set. I don't think I've ever had this much fun on set before."

She chose the drama because the character seemed like an easy one to play. She felt pressured about making a comeback since her last drama had not gone well.

"I chose the 'safe' one. I was nervous about coming back."

But now that she is not feeling so unsure she is ready to try characters that are quirkier and one of a kind. She would also enjoy being in a romantic comedy such as "You Who Came From Another Star."

"I want to do something like that," she said. "The story is fun and the ratings were great. It is so popular in China and what can get better than that? I watched the highlights mostly, but it's one of the best dramas I've watched."
