ASAP Rocky and model Chanel Iman were together for a year and engaged for six months of that period before blaming their busy work schedules for splitting, according to the U.K’s The Daily Mail.
Despite the split, Chanel Iman may have been the inspiration for ASAP Rocky’s acting/film debut in the upcoming film, “Dope,” which was reportedly a fan favorite during the Sundance Film Festival, according to Vibe.
“I was helping Chanel with her lines, and there was one role where I was like, ‘Oh, this dumb kid, he seems a little interesting. I was to go for it,” explained the 26-year-old rapper.
ASAP Rocky was reportedly in London recording an album so the “Goldie” rapper decided to send a video in as an audition.
“Two months later, when I flew to L.A., I met up with Rick and did an audition in front of him, and he just decided to go with me. [I found out I got the role] via text message from Rick. He wrote me, like, ‘Congratulations, Dom.’ And I was like, ‘What? Did I get him correct just now? Am I trippin’? Am I buggin?,’” continued the “Fashion Killa” rapper.
Other rappers, including Tyga and Vince Staples and Casey Veggies, reportedly appear in the film as well, according to Rolling Stone. Zoe Kravitz and Quincy Brown reportedly make appearances in the film as well.
Pharrell Williams reportedly penned four tracks for “Dope.”
Aside from his acting debut, ASAP Rocky has quite a lot going for him in the music industry, even being compared to Tupac.
“I think that’s not a fair comparison,” stated ASAP Rocky.
He added, “Those shoes are way too big to try to fill. I’m nothing like Pac. Nobody is, you know? It would be an honor to be influential and to be as revolutionary and universal as he was, to have that kind of impact with a genre like hip-hop.”
