In updated news regarding Flight 370, which went missing on March 8, 2014, the Malaysian government reportedly officially declared the disappearance of the aircraft an accident, according to BBC News.
The government’s reported statement that there were no survivors on the Malaysian Airline flight MH370 has shocked the relatives of the passengers who have waited nearly a year on news regarding their family members.
“I waited for a whole year, but this is not the answer I want to hear. I can’t believe what they said. There is no evidence at all, how could they draw such a conclusion? There must be a conspiracy,” stated 57-year-old Li Xinmao, whose daughter was on the plane, according to USA Today.
She added, “I won’t accept any compensation because they are hiding the truth. I can’t accept it.”
Malaysian officials have reportedly stated that the recovery of the missing plane remained a priority. The plane is reportedly believed to have crashed in the southern Indian Ocean off the coast of western Australia.
154 out of the 239 passengers on Flight 370 were reportedly Chinese. China’s foreign ministry reportedly called for compensation for the victims’ families.
“We call on the Malaysian side to honor the promise made when they declared the flight to have been lost and earnestly fulfill their compensation responsibilities,” spokeswoman Hua Chunying said in a statement.
Despite today’s announcement, the Malaysian authorities are reportedly not ruling out foul play, according to BBC’s transport correspondent Richard Westcott. Malaysia Airlines will reportedly contact the families to further the compensation process.
Family members of the passengers in China have reportedly refused to accept the recently released statement regarding Flight 370.
“They have found nothing,” stated Li Jingxin whose brother is missing.
He continued, “With nothing found, how can they make any announcement?”
