It's official. Actor Jo Jung Suk and singer Gummy have gone public with their relationship. Korean media outlets such as Ilgan Sports, Osen and Yonhap News, revealed this week that not only are the two dating, but they have been seeing each other secretly for the last two years.
Less than a half hour after the first article about them was released, both agencies confirmed the relationship.
Jo Jung Suk's agency Dreamstar Entertainment, and Gummy's agency, C-JeS Entertainment both confirmed to OSEN that the actor and singer were in a relationship and were friends for a white before becoming a couple.
"Please show support for the couple," read a statement released by C-JeS Entertainment. "Also, please stop releasing speculations and over-the-top coverage."
Gummy, 33, and Jo Jung Suk, 34, met through a mutual friend and grew closer due to a shared interest in music. Jo Jung Suk is known for his roles in films such as "The Face Reader" and "The Fatal Encounter" and for his roles in dramas such as "You're The Best Lee Soon Shin" and "King 2 Hearts." The 2012 film "Architecture 101" was considered his breakout hit. He is currently shooting the film "Time Renegade" with co-star Lee Min Ho.
But he is also a musical actor, having appeared in almost two-dozen musicals since his 2004 debut, including "Grease," "Spring Awakening" and "Hedwig and the Angry Inch."
In a 2012 interview with "Singles" magazine, he was asked what kind of boyfriend he would make.
"I don't think I'm a bad boyfriend," he said. "Saying I like someone makes me so incredibly self-conscious, my hands and feet curl in on themselves. In English, I'd say "Not Bad"? I'm the type of person who'd make an effort for my girlfriend, even if I don't really know what she likes or wants."
But he also said he was looking for a girl who could take care of him. He and Gummy obviously care about each other.
Park Ji Yeon, who is known by the stage name Gummy, debuted a year before Jo Jung Suk. She made her musical debut when she released the album "Like Them" in 2003. as a singer, she is known for her rich voice and distinctive vocal style. Some of her biggest hits include the songs "We Should've Been Friends" and "I'm Sorry."
Rumors about the couple began to circulate after someone noticed that Gummy often attended pre-screening events on Jo Jung Suk's productions. She was seen at an event for his recent film "My Love, My Bride 2014."
