Star soccer player Ki Sung Yeung and his wife, actress Han Hye Jin are expecting their first child.
Netizens suspected as much when Ki mimicked sucking his thumb after he scored his fifth goal of the season for his team Swansea City. The gesture took place on February 22 at the 2014-2015 Premier League Match against Manchester United in South West Wales. It's a traditional gesture that some football players use to indicate their wives are pregnant.
Namoo Actors, Han Hye Jin's agency, confirmed the news on February 23.
"She is in the early stages of pregnancy," said a Namoo spokesperson.
Han Hye Jin is 33 and her husband is 26. The couple's age difference attracted much attention when she first confirmed that they were dating. It also caused them to doubt their relationship.
"Both she and I thought about all the challenges we faced," wrote Ki Sung Yeung in a letter to his fans. "Since we get a lot of attention from people due to the nature of our jobs, things were rather difficult."
Those doubts caused them to break up once but they found they could not stay apart. When they reunited, they decided to marry quickly, after only a few months of dating.
"I was scared at first but I knew that it would be the biggest regret of my life if I let go of her," Ki Sung Yeung wrote to his fans. "I want to spend the rest of my life with her."
Han Hye Jin debuted in 2002 and has continued to act after the couple married in 2013. Because Ki plays with an English team, he is stationed in the United Kingdom. Han Hye Jin has spent time living there but she also returned to Korea for work. Since her marriage, she has appeared in the 2013 divorce drama "One Warm Word" and the 2014 film "Man in Love," with Hwang Jung Min.
She is currently living in Korea.
Han Hye Jin is best known for her role in the drama "Jumong" and the film "26 Years." She also hosted the popular variety program "Healing Camp."
Ki Sung Yeung now ties with Park Ji Sung for "the most goals by a Korean soccer player" in an English Premier League Season. English media outlets Sky Sports and the Daily Mail named Ki Sung Yeung the "Man of the Match."
