Im Si Wan has taken a role in the upcoming movie "Thinking of Brother." The ZE:A singer-turned actor will play Han Sang Ryul, a military officer with exemplary leadership skills.
Not only does Hang have the skills to lead his troops to victory but he's compassionate. He tries to minimize the cruelties that war inflicts on those who made most vulnerable by it. The film's story is set during the 1950 - 1953 Korean War that tore the nation apart. But the film focuses less on the horror of war than the heartwarming efforts of one man to minimize its effects on children.
In the midst of war, Hang Sang Ryul becomes involved with and winds up leading a children's choir.
Director Lee Han, who is best known for his films "Punch" and "Elegant Lies," said that Im Si Wan was the perfect actor for the role.
"I can't think of anyone else apart from Im," Lee said in an interview with Korean publication TV Report. "I think he is the best fit for the movie. I have the ultimate confidence that he will pull off his role."
Im managed not to only pull off his last three roles but he earned praise and awards for them. He played Jang Geu Rae the under-qualified but optimistic office employee in the hit tvN series "Misaeng."
Playing that often-heartbreaking character won him a 2015 Cable TV Broadcasting Best Actor award.
Im Si Wan also won praise for playing Park Jin Woo in 2013 film "The Attorney," which turned out to be the eighth best-selling Korean film of all time. He won six different awards for that role.
And the actor also won an MBC Drama Award for his role in "Triangle," where he played the youngest of three brothers who were separated when they were young. Lee Bum Soo and JYJ's Kim Jae Joong played his older brothers. Im Si Wan's drama character grew up rich but was not happy.
The 26-year-old actor-singer had his first drama role in 2010 when he had a cameo appearance in the comedy "Prosecutor Princess." But he first attracted notice when he played the young Heo Yeom in the 2012 historical drama "The Moon Embracing The Sun."
He debuted with the group ZE:A in 2010
According to the Korean media outlet Newsen, "Thinking of Brother" will begin filming in May and wrap up by August.
