On March 31, actor Choi Jin Hyuk, Jaejoong of the pop trio JYJ and Super Junior’s Sungmin enlisted in the Korean military.

Jaejoong attempted to privately enlist but more than 300 fans and members of the media gathered to send off the K-pop star, when he arrived at the First Division recruitment center in Gyeonggi Province.

Sungmin, who recently married actress Kim So Eun, was also greeted by more than 100 fans. Sungmin was sent off by his wife and the gathering of fans, when he entered the 17th Division, which was also located in Gyeonggi Province.

Choi Jin Hyuk was the only star to enter quietly, without the presence of fans.

Each star worked diligently in the days leading up to their enlistment. Jaejoong held two concerts on March 28 and 29, as a way of preparing fans for his absence. While this event was primarily for Korean audiences, he provided an concert opportunity for visiting Japanese fans on March 15 at the Grand Peace Palace.
Choi Jin Hyuk also held a fan meeting event on March 28.

Jaejoong’s agency, C-JeS Entertainment released a previously recorded video of the star on March 31. In the video, he is depicted with long hair and provides a lengthy message to his fans. He is the first member of JYJ to enlist in the military.

While Sungmin has appeared in movies and TV drama, his most notable work outside of Super Junior has come through musical theater performances. Jaejoong has starred in K-Dramas including “Protect the Boss and “Triangle.” Choi Jin Hyuk experienced increased success following the 2013 drama “Gu Family Book,” which led to subsequent roles in popular series including “The Heirs” and “Fated to Love You.”

The three stars will be discharged from their mandatory service term on December 30, 2016.
