Web dramas have become increasingly popular, particularly those which showcase K-pop idols. The series provide short snippets of programming, as opposed to the hour long segments that are generally consistent with Korean dramas. Major K-pop agencies have become increasingly involved in the production of web dramas, which was demonstrated through YG Entertainment’s announcement about the upcoming series “We Broke Up” starring 2NE1’s Dara (Sandara Park) and Kang Seung Yoon of WINNER. “We Broke Up” is scheduled to launch in June 2015 but here are 5 web dramas to watch in the interim.
1.”Aftermath”
“Aftermath” is a 2014 supernatural crime drama which was broadcast on Naver TVCast in January 2014. The 11 episode series stars ZE:A’s Dong Jun (Boarding House #24), model-turned-actor Kim Geun Hyeong, and Seon Joo Ah (Sunny). The popularity of “Aftermath” sparked the recent trend in web dramas, as viewers devoured the episodes during their commute and break times.
2. “Dream Knight”
“Dream Knight” is a 2015 drama starring JYP Entertainment’s GOT7 and actress Song Ha Yoon (Sweden Laundry). The series was simultaneously broadcast in Korea on Naver TVCast and to Chinese audiences via Tudou Youku. J .Y. Park (Park Jin Young) is hilariously depicted as the moon, in the fantasy musical series.
3. “Love Cells”
“Love Cells” is a quirky web drama which incorporated fantasy and romantic comedy into a unique plot. The series stars 4Minute’s Nam Ji Hyun as Seo Rin, a top star, who becomes the extraordinary love interest of Ma Dae Choong (Park Sun Ho). 15-year-old acting phenom Kim Yoo Jung portrays Navi, a cat who looks like a human. “Love Cells” featured special appearances from top stars including Kim Woo Bin and Jang Hyuk.
4. “Another Parting
“Another Parting” is a five-episode melodrama which aired on DRAMAcube in February 2014. The series stars Seo In Guk (Master’s Sun) and Wang Ji Won (Fated to Love You). The tragic series focuses on a man and woman who meet towards the end of their lives.
5. “Vampire Flower”
“Vampire Flower” is a Naver TVCast drama which is touted as Korea’s “Twilight.” The 6-six episode series stars Kim Ga Eun (Gap Dong) and A-JAX member Seo Jae Hyung. “Vampire Flower” chronicles a vampire romance and the quest to find a mysterious flower.
