Yoon Hyun Min plays the kind of best friend that no one wants to have in "Falling for Innocence" aka "Falling for Soon Jung." His character seems like a nice guy on the surface but he has his murderous side. Before that he played Kim Seul Gi's housemate and future boyfriend in "Discovery of Love."
What else should you know about this versatile actor?
Here are five facts.
1. He did not plan to be an actor. He wanted to play baseball. He started playing ball in middle school and by age 20 had already signed on to a professional baseball team.
"I was absolutely not interested in the entertainment world," he said in an interview with Elle. When I was a baseball player, I often heard 'you don't look like an athlete,' but I didn't like hearing these words. It made me feel uncomfortable when my sunbaes kept saying, 'try to be an entertainer.' And I naturally started disliking baseball and I was thinking about dropping out. The turning point was when I coincidentally attended the musical 'Finding Kim Jong Wook.' I don't know if I would have taken a different path if I had met a business owner back then."
He quit sports to start acting in 2007.
2. The 30-year-old actor dates 29-year-old Jun So Min, the actress who recently played a supporting role in "The Maids." A report in the Korean media outlet Daily Sports said that the couple met a year ago and they began dating at the beginning of 2015. The couple met through Jung Kyung Ho, the actor Yoon Hyun Min co-starred with in "Cruel City" and who now plays his rival in "Falling For Innocence."
3. He likes to play jokes on set. In an interview with CeCi magazine he and "Discovery of Love" co-star Kim Seul Gi talked about how they kidded around while filming that comedy.
"I played a lot of annoying jokes on Seul Gi while filming," said Yoon. "The way she handled it wasn′t that far off from real life, so her acting appeared more natural."
That joking around included an unscripted kiss scene.
"The kiss scene with Hyun Min was actually not in the script, and he put in a kiss scene as an ad-lib without telling me, so I was so surprised that I fell backwards," said Kim Seul Gi.
4. When he served as one of honorary ambassadors of the Suncheonman Bay Animal Film Festival, he spoke about his own pet, a very pretty Maltese.
"I am raising a five-year-old Maltese. She's a female and her name is Flower. When I first saw her my first impression was that she was as pretty as a flower," he said.
5. He's friendly with his two-time co-star Jung Kyung Ho, who he considers to be one of the finest actors in his age group. The two occasionally jog together.
