On May 11, the Korean news outlet Newsis published a report confirming the casting of Lee Soo Hyuk in the vampire drama, "Scholar Who Walks The Night." The 26-year-old model-turned-actor will portray Gwi< a vampire who seduces humans with his unearthly beauty and charm. His confirmation follows August 8 reports that he was in consideration for a role in the highly anticipated period drama.

Based on a popular webtoon, "Scholar Who Walks The Night" focuses on a night-crawling vampire who encounters a young woman who is disguised as a man. The series is set within the Joseon period, which explains the necessity of a woman dressing up as a man, in order to land gainful employment.

"Scholar Who Walks The Night" marks the K-Drama return of Lee Joon Gi, following his 2014 period series "Gunman in Joseon."

"We Got Married" star Kim So Eun will portray the female lead of the series. She is cast in the role of Hye Ryeong, a noblewoman whose family is plunged into poverty, following a tragic incident. She aids her struggling family by donning the disguise of a man. While she is out selling books, she encounters a beautiful scholar. Ryeong later discovers that the scholar is a vampire.

Lee Yoo Bi (Pinocchio, Twenty) rounds out the star-studded cast. She is reunited with her "Vampire Idol" co-star, Lee Soo Hyuk. "Vampire Idol" is a 2011 MBN sitcom which focused on alien vampires who were led to Earth by a prince who wished to see the performance of his favorite K-pop idol. The prince and his delegation form an idol group, after they are stranded on Earth. "Vampire Idol" was a campy series but it also served as a launching point for Kim Woo Bin and Hong Jong Hyun.

Lee Soo Hyuk portrayed Soo Hyuk, a 22-year-old vampire-turned-vocalist in the series. His authentic portrayal of a vampire in the satirical drama will lend itself to "Scholar Who Walks The Night." The series will air on MBC on Wednesdays and Thursdays in July 2015.
