Actor Song Seung Hoon takes on the role of a family man in his upcoming film "Wonderful Nightmare." Playing a good dad and husband is something of a change from his previous roles but he thought it might be fun.
"I wanted to give it a try to break my usual image," he said in an interview with the Korean media outlet OSEN. "I've never played any role that is so close to my daily life and is so comical like this character. I believe you'll be able to see my other sides of me in 'Wonderful Nightmare."
The title has something to do with the fact that what happens is both wonderful and a nightmare for both of the leading characters.
Song's character Seon Hwan wakes up one day to discover his wife is acting strangely. She no longer wants him to touch her and does not seem to be in love with him. She keeps making mistakes while doing things she has always done. He still loves her but her changed behavior is something of a nightmare he would like to wake up from.
It's also a nightmare for his wife, Yeon Woo, played by Uhm Jung Hwa. For a start, she is not really his wife. She just woke up in his wife's body. She was a successful single attorney and then one day she has an accident. She dies and gets to heaven only to discover it was a mistake, a clerical error. She was not meant to die. So, to make up for that mistake, she is sent back to earth in the body of Yeon Woo, mom to a difficult teen and a six-year-old.
Yeon Woo is not used to being married, having kids or having to do housework. But in the end it could turn out to be wonderful. After all she is married to Song Seung Hoon.
What did Uhm Jung Hwa think of Song Seung Hoon's transformation into a municipal worker and devoted family man?
"He wanted to change his previous image and worked hard for it," she said. "I think he looked really cool when he was making such efforts. He entertained us a lot at many unexpected moments. I believe his casting was such an amazing unexpected bet."
Song Seung Hoon's last film was "Obsessed" and he also appears in the Chinese film "The Third Love." His last drama was "When A Man Loves" in 2013.
Uhm Jung Hwa was last seen in the drama "Witch's Romance." Her last film was "Venus Talk."
"Wonderful Nightmare" will be released in July.
