If there were a contest for the actress who played the worst k-drama moms, Park Jun Geum would win it. Yes. Lee Min Ho's mom in "Boys Over Flowers" was bad to his girlfriend, played by Gu Hye Sun. But Park Jun Geum has played and continues to play so many bad moms that she deserves a title all her own.
And when she starred in "The Heirs" she had her own chance to play Lee Min Ho's mom and intimidate his girlfriend, played by Park Shin Hye.
Park Jun Geum currently stars as Joo Ji Hoon's scheming stepmom in "Mask." Her character, Song Seol Hee wastes no time considering how lucky she is to be so rich and have everything she needs. Instead she spends all her time scheming against her stepson, so he will not be considered capable of inheriting the family company. She wants her daughter to inherit it and doesn't care if she has to destroy her stepson and his wife, played by Soo Ae, to accomplish that. Song Seol Hee is not only superficial and pretentious but she's greedy and manipulative. She's just the kind of k-drama mom you love to hate.
Park Jun Keum is very good at playing bad moms and she creates a believable, easily hate-able character in Song Seol Hee.
In a short time Park has acquired an impressive resume of bad mom roles. Not only was she Lee Min Ho's not-so-nice stepmom in "The Heirs," but she was also Choi Jin Hyuk's annoying, interfering mom in "Emergency Couple."
Her character blamed his ex-wife, played by Song Ji Hyo, for everything that went wrong in her son's life.
But before Park Jun Geum took either of those roles she played one of the worst k-drama moms of all time, Hyun Bin's interfering mom in 'Secret Garden." She made life miserable for Ha Ji Won's character by trying to destroy her relationship with Hyun Bin. Park Jun Keum's mom role in "Mask" is most similar to the selfish mom she played in the 2009 drama "Smile You."
Considering what an impressive resume of bad mom roles Park has had, it may surprise viewers to learn that the 52-year-old actress has only been acting for the last six years.
In that time she has appeared in 16 dramas and two films. She can also currently be seen in "Divorce Lawyers in Love." In real life, fellow co-stars have commented on how sweet she is and how maternal she is to the younger actors on set. That makes her bad mom roles even more impressive.
