Hilary Duff revealed that she found it "super annoying" when people still recognize her as Lizzie Mcguire, years after she played the Disney character.

In an interview with Pride Source, Hilary Duff shared that it was "torturous" to play Lizzie Mcguire at times. The "Sparks" singer said that the writers of the show knew her so well that they began to write episodes that were too close to home.

"As torturous as it has been at some points in my life to be Lizzie McGuire, I think that when that show came out, it was such a part of who I was, I didn't feel like I was playing a part," Duff revealed.

"The writers all knew me so well and were writing things that were happening in my life and things that I would say, and I was dressing exactly like I wanted. It was so me."

Just like other Disney alumni, Hilary Duff shared that she found it difficult to get away from Lizzie Mcguire's shadows. She said that even after the show ended, many fans still recognized her as Lizzie, which infuriated her at times.

"I don't think during the filming it was torturous. I loved it during the filming," she explained.

"I just didn't know what a success the show was gonna be, and after that - four years, five years after that - and I was still Lizzie McGuire to people and that was super annoying."

The actress added that because she had been closely associated with Lizzie Mcguire she decided to "bow out for a minute" before making her next career move.

"Everyone thought I was just absolutely nuts because I was really successful and making a lot of money. And it was scary, because there was no guarantee that my career was still gonna be there."

Duff, however, clarified that as she years passed by, she started to appreciate it when people recognize her from the Disney show.

"I don't care now. I'm grateful for it," she said.
