For a while actor Song Il Gook has been a devoted stage father to his triplets, the adorable stars of the variety show "Superman Is Back." But he may soon have to take some time off from his parental role to continue his own acting career.
The rumors have been circulating for a while but now it seems that Song has definitely been offered a drama role and he is currently considering whether to take it. He has been offered the leading role in an upcoming KBS historical drama titled "Jang Yeong Sil."
The drama will tell the story of Jang Yeong Sil, a famous Korean scientist and astronomer. What makes this character interesting and the role desirable is that Jang was born a peasant, but went on to invent some of the more impressive technological developments of the Joseon era.
It has been four years since Song appeared in his last dramas, "Crime Squad" and "Fermentation Family," although he did appear in two 2014 films, "Tatooist" and "Entangled." He has had success with historical dramas having previously appeared in two saeguks, "Jumong" and "Emperor of the Sea."
And while it has been fun to spend time with his children, he may be eager to return to dramaland.
According to Song's agency Haneol Entertainment, he will decide soon.
"Nothing has been decided yet. He will decide in a little while."
Does this mean the triplets Dae Han, Min Guk and Man Se will be leaving "Superman Is Back."
The agency had no comment on this topic.
"We haven't heard anything from Song Il Kook's side, and we have never had a discussion about this topic either. There's no reason for us to bring up leaving in this situation. So as of now, we are planning to continue with his appearance on this show.
But he does have to make up his mind soon as "Jang Yeong Sil" is due to air in September.
The show "Superman Is Back" shows what happens when dads are left alone with their kids, while their wives have some personal time to recuperate. Naturally, three kids can be three times the chaos and also three times the fun. Song Il Gook's triplets turned three this year and their adorable antics have proven to be very popular with TV audiences.
What do you think? Should Song Il Gook take what promises to be a juicy role? Or should he continue on "Superman Is Back."
