An international fan club of "Running Man" stars Gary and Song Ji Hyo have donated a forest in the name of the celebrities. The pair, known as the Monday Couple, have amassed a large following due to their appearance on the SBS variety show.
According to an article published by Newsen, the donation drive for the forest consisted of fan club members from 11 different countries or regions including China and Hong Kong. The Taiwan-based fan organization, known as International Monday Couple Fans, provided a statement regarding their charitable effort.
"We wanted to create a forest, near Seoul, that the Monday Couple or Gary and Song Ji Hyo could directly visit," said a representative for the group. "What makes the event meaningful is if the Monday Couple cares for the forest direct, which is an expression of our love."
The forest is located in Gangil Dong, a neighborhood of Gangdong Gu in Seoul. The fan club donated several types of vegetation including cherry trees and jasanhong plants, a rhododendron hybrid.
The company which supplied the forestal materials, Tree Planet, has been responsible for planting forests in honor of celebrities like IU, Kim Soo Hyun, TVXQ and EXO.
