Actor Jung Woo Sung has been asked to play a lead role in "God's Trick," a film about a Go player who is down on his luck. As the game is all about strategy, the actor may take some time to consider all the odds.
"Nothing has been officially decided yet," said Jung's agency, Red Brick House. "We are still cautiously assessing the offer."
It is only one of several options he is considering at the moment. While the agency agrees that the actor finds the story very interesting, nothing is yet set in stone. And that's appropriate as the film is about a complicated game played with black and white stones.
Jo Bum Goo who directed the films "Quick" and "Riverbank Legends" will direct the film. Filming begins in July.
One thing Jung may have to consider is whether appearing in the film fits into his busy schedule. He just finished filming "Stakeout." The actor director has also signed on to serve on the competition jury at the 14th Jeonju International Film Festival this month. And he will soon direct Samsung Galaxy cell phone ads.
Jung has been acting since 1997 when he appeared in the film "Beat." In that film he played a high school student who gets pressed into gang life. One of his best known roles-and the role that earned him international recognition-was playing a slave Yeo Sol in the 2001 historical film "Musa."
In 2002, he tried his hand at directing music videos and appeared in commercials. He also played the lead role in the film, "Mutt Boy."
He also had a series of romantic roles. In the film, "A Moment To Remember," he played an architect whose wife has early-onset Alzheimer's disease. In "Daisy," he played a hit man in love with an artist.
After 15 years away from the small screen, he returned to star in "Athena: Goddess of War," a 2010 spin off from the series, "Iris." In his next series, "Padam, Padam: The Sound of His and Her Heartbeats, he played a man who was released from prison after serving a 16-year prison sentence he did not deserve. He makes friends with a man who claims he is an angel and talks about miracles.
He directed a commercial for Cable TV Channel XTM last October and played the lead role. He also directed a music video for the boy group G.O.D., which might indicate that these days he sees his future in directing.
