Now that Kim Soo Hyun has finished filming "Secretly and Greatly," he is taking some time off to consider what he will do next. Naturally, he will participate in promotional activities for the movie, due to open in June, but it's likely that once his film responsibilities end, his next project may be a drama.
According to his agency, Key East Entertainment, the actor will not just be considering commercials.
"He has already received drama offers and will be reviewing them," said an agency representative.
Kim is best known for portraying Song Sam Dong in "Dream High," and he won hearts as the crown prince, Lee Hwon in the MBS historical drama, "The Moon Embracing The Sun." He also appeared in the commercially successful movie, "The Thieves," when he played the thief Jampano.
His new film, "Secretly and Greatly" was inspired by a 2010 webtoon about a North Korean spy who acts dumb as part of his disguise.
He plays the spy, Won Ryu Han who pretends to be Bang Dong Gu, a grinning fool teased by the neighborhood kids. But it's just a disguise. In an instant the character can switch personalities, becoming a highly efficient, top-notch spy.
Won is part of a group of spies called the 5446 Corps. North Korean elite forces trained these spies with the goal of unifying Korea. When the spies are dispatched to South Korea, they each take on a disguise. Won plays the village idiot, while his comrades pretend to be an aspiring singer and a high school student. His fellow spies on this mission are Lee Hae Rang, played by Park Ki Woong, and Lee Hae Jin, played by Lee Hyun Woo.
They are sent to South Korea without any further instructions than to fit in. Much time passes without any more orders, so they get used to life in the Seoul slum they live in.
But no sooner do they get comfortable with their new life then everything changes. The three undercover spies are finally assigned an important mission that they cannot refuse. Their North Korean army instructor Kim Tae Won goes to South Korea to eliminate anyone who does not follow orders. Will they follow orders or make a run for it? And if they run, will Kim Tae Won catch them?
Since there are plenty of action scenes in this movie, Kim trained for up to four hours a day and even attended an action school. His fans anticipate such scenes in the movie but also look forward to his return to the small screen.
