On August 13, Korean news outlets reported the addition of a new writer to the production team of the supernatural series, "Scholar Who Walks the Night." An unnamed source from MBC served as the initial catalyst for reports, but the addition was confirmed through the production team.

An article published by News1 announced the addition of Ryu Yong Jae, a screenwriter previously responsible for the 2007 MBC drama, "Time Between Dog and Wolf." "Time Between Dog and Wolf" starred Lee Jong Gi, who is the male lead of "Scholar Who Walks the Night."

Ryu also served as the writer for the tvN hit drama, "Liar Game." Kim So Eun, who portrays dual roles in "Scholar Who Walks the Night" was the female lead of "Liar Game."

An official for the production provided a statement regarding the commission of another writer. "It is true that Ryu Yong Jae has joined our team," said the spokesperson.

Ryu is credited for episode 11 of the series and is expected to continue with the project until it completes its 20-episode run. The addition of another writer is an unusual step for a Korean drama but is most likely due to lackluster ratings.

While the vampire drama debuted to great fanfare, it has struggled to achieve high ratings. "Scholar Who Walks the Night" benefits from a star-studded cast, which also includes Lee Yoo Bi and Lee Soo Hyuk. However, the series airs on Wednesdays-Thursdays, which has placed it against both double-digit juggernauts like "Mask" and "Yong Pal."
