The latest "The Vampire Diaries" spoilers for season 7 suggest that Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) will be killed off in the coming episodes. Following Nina Dobrev's (Elena Gilbert) exit, it was said that the actor also wanted to leave The CW drama series.

When Somerhalder posted a cryptic photo on his Instagram page, in which it was showed that the first season "TVD" was recognized as the number 1 drama on television, many fans start to wonder if it was an indication that the actor was slowly losing faith on the show.

According to Food World News, Somerhalder was allegedly worried as to how his character would be received now that Dobrev is no longer in the picture. The actor reportedly believed that the fans will soon lose interest, and that the show would eventually get cancelled.

"After Somerhalder's post, it appeared to some fans as an indication that the actor might also be leaving the show since his character Damon Salvatore will be nothing big without Dobrev's character," the site reported.

The International Business Times, however, pointed out that Somerhalder's foreseeable exit had nothing to do with Dobrev's departure. The outlet held that the actor may have just grown tired of playing Damon and wanted a new challenge.

The publication also held that with Elena out of the picture, the plot for season 7 will focus on other cast members, specifically Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline's (Candice Accola) relationship.

"I really want to keep living in the world where Stefan [Paul Wesley] and Caroline [Candice Accola] are just starting to get together," showruner Julie Plec told Zap2It.

The executive producer added that even if Ian Somerhalder and Elena Gilbert played a huge part in "The Vampire Diaries" the series would not be crippled with both actors gone.

"I always say I never want the show to get cancelled. I want us to decide for it to be time to be done," Plec said.
