Kim Soo Hyun has taken on the role of an elite spy who must live as a village fool.
A movie called "Secretly Greatly" will be released on June 5, starred by actor Kim Soo Hyun. In this movie, Kim Soo Hyun has taken on the role of an elite spy who must live as a village fool. After the completion of his appearance in the drama "The Moon that Embraces the Sun", Kim Soo Hyun made the decision to appear in this film. However, Kim Soo Hyun had to wait a year because of the difficulty in casting actors and the change in director.
This movie has been described to be greatly dependent on Kim Soop Hyun, meaning that he is basically at the center of this project.
"Secretly Greatly" is Kim Soo Hyun's first main role in a movie. As significant this film is, what is he thinking about now that the movie is about to be released?
Q: How many times did you watch "Secretly Greatly"? Actors usually say that they only see themselves when they watch their movie for the very first time and that they need to watch it several time to see the film as a whole.
Kim Soo Hyun: I watched it four times. Even now, I only see me. You tend to lose objectivity in these circumstances.
Q: Why did you choose this movie?
Kim Soo Hyun: I heard that "Secretly Greatly" is being made into a film. I heard that the webtune is very popular so I looked it up. I laughed and cried. I wanted this challenge and it was also nice to see foolishness and action at the same time.
Q: After you were casted, it was difficult to cast actors for the remaining roles. You must have felt a lot of pressure since it is your first main role in a movie that depended on you significantly.
Kim Soo Hyun: There was a lot of pressure. If the scale was too big for me to handle, I wouldn't have been able to do it. At the time, I believed that I will be able to take on the role. I did this movie because I liked the character and I think the audience will like the story. It was a challenge for me because I had to become a fool after portraying a king. I am still a challenger.
Q: Actors like Yoo Ah In and Song Joong Ki have appeared in films like "Punch" and "Wolf Boy" and achieved a stable acting career. Do you ever feel that they are your competitors?
Kim Soo Hyun: I enjoyed their movies. However, I don't feel that I need to compete against them. I think the feeling is mutual since each of our path are different.
Q: Was a "fool" hard to portray?
Kim Soo Hyun: I enjoyed it. My life changed after "The Moon that Embraces the Sun". Wherever I went I had to act cool. I liked the acting in "Secretly Greatly" because I could let go of the image from my previous role. It was fun to find out how much I was able to let myself go.
Q: Even when you are acting a fool, your face is glowing. The audience will inevitably see Kim Soo Hyun when they watch the movie and not just a fool.
Kim Soo Hyun: The fool that I was aiming to become was someone who could be taken light heartedly. I referred to the Teletubbies and their body language.
Q: There is a scene where you roll down from a second story building. Did you do the acting?
Kim Soo Hyun: I did the acting. All the action was done by my. The martial arts director guided me through all the action moves that I could learn. I did all the acting like flying through the buildings and wire stunts.
Q: After your appearance in the drama "The Moon that Embraces the Sun", there was a lot of talk about your change in attitude after becoming famous. Did you change?
Kim Soo Hyun: I did change. I'm still adjusting. There was a lot of pressure and responsibility after gaining so much fame and popularity through my role in "The Moon that Embraces the Sun." Even when nobody noticed, I wore a hat. I'm getting a little better now that I started going to school after filming for the movie. I can just be a student at school. I'm still changing. I hear from time to time what people have said about me but there is nothing I can do about them.
Q: Can you express your thoughts on your muscles that have been exposed in the film?
Kim Soo Hyun: I began preparing a month and a half before we began filming. I mostly ate protein and didn't eat a lot. After filming, I worked out.
Q: What type of meanings do you place on "The Moon that Embraces the Sun", "Thieves", and Secretly Greatly"?
Kim Soo Hyun: "The Moon that Embraces the Sun" is a project that changed by life. "Thieves" is a project that I really enjoyed working with highly respected actors and actresses in the business. "Secretly Greatly" is a challenge.
