With the release date drawing closer speculations are rife about the sci-fi movie "The Martian" directed by Ridley Scott.

Earlier this month the highly anticipated flick by Scott was premiered at the Toronto International film festival where it received incredible reviews. Meanwhile, the film had its European premiere on Thursday in London which was attended by stars including Kate Mara, Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The film was received well in the International and London premiere and critically acclaimed by real-time astronauts. Michael Barratt, an astronaut from NASA, a flight surgeon and two-time space-flier noted there are certain things in "The Martian" that aren't right but they are negligible when compared to a lot that the filmmakers excelled with, reported GeekWire.

"Don't get hung up on what the filmmakers got wrong," Barratt said. "I would just ask everybody to get past that, because there are so many things they got right."

Meanwhile, Mars expert Scott Hubbard, a consulting professor in the department of aeronautics and astronautics at Stanford University noted that "The fundamental starting premise is completely incorrect." Since the atmosphere of Mars is thin and the winds would reach only a half hurricane strength it "would probably not be sensed by an astronaut let alone pose the sort of threat seen in the movie," according to Gadgets 360.

"The Martian" is scheduled for release in theatres on October 2, 2015. The rough plot of the movie is Mark Watney played by Damon would be abandoned alone in Mars as a result of ferocious storm. The storm that hit his location in the red planet separates him from his crew that presumes him to be dead. After Watney manages to communicate with scientists on Earth, NASA and the team of international scientists work day and night to bring him back.

Watney's crewmates simultaneously draw up plans to rescue and bring him back against the obstacles they face in the red planet. The biggest challenge of all is Watney has to survive against the unexpected odds in the unfamiliar planet with the spares supplies left till he is rescued by his mates.
