Krystal Will Join EXO's Lay In The Chinese Film, 'Kite Flying'

EXO's Lay and f(x) Krystal have been cast in the Korean-Chinese co-production, "Kite Flying."

On October 7, SM Entertainment confirmed the casting news through an exclusive report published by the domestic outlet, Munhwa Ilbo.

"Lay and Krystal will appear in 'Kite Flying,'" said a representative for SM.

The report went on to describe the unique nature of the project, which could set a precedent for future co-productions. "Kite Flying" will be directed by Sung Si Heub of "Plan Man," but will be produced by a Chinese company.

While it has become common practice, within the past year, for Korean actors and idols to be cast in Chinese films, this is the first time that two active K-pop performers will lead a movie that is being created with the primary objective of marketing to audiences in China.

The article notes the success of the Chinese adaptation of "Miss Granny," "20 Again." "20 Again" marked the acting debut for former EXO member, Luhan.

Lay, who continues to promote with EXO and EXO-M, recently filmed his first Chinese project. He experienced his breakout acting role in the Zhang Ziyi-produced movie, "Oh My God."

"Kite Flying' will mark dramatic film debut for Krystal, who has previously appeared as herself on the silver screen.

Krystal led the cast of the 2014 musical drama, "My Lovely Girl," but attracted attention from international audiences through her role in the 2013 teen series, "The Heirs."

According to the report, the production is targeting Chinese tourists through its incorporation of scenes filmed in Busan. Busan will serve as a primary backdrop for the movie, which will shoot 40 percent of its footage in Korea
