Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the alleged mastermind behind the Paris terror attacks purportedly did not even go to the mosque, according to his older sister.
Abaaoud was killed in a raid in Saint-Denis, a few days after the Paris terror attacks that killed 129 people last Friday.
The motives behind the attacks allegedly led by Abdelhamid Abaaoud remains unclear as more details about his background are uncovered.
"Like many who travel to the so-called 'Islamic State,' his actions appear to have been motivated more by a thirst for power, violence and unaccountability," Independent reported.
"According to his family, the young man showed much more interest in petty crime than Islam, and they were shocked when he took his 13-year-old brother Younes with him to travel to Syria in January 2014," the report continued.
"After he was trained and further radicalised in Syria, Abaaoud was able to return to Europe via Athens. He was picked up by European security services and reportedly even stopped by police but let go, after which he disappeared."
According to a report, Abdelhamid Abaaoud was located by authorities in a Paris suburb through tedious investigation following the Paris terror attacks.
"Remember he's Moroccan, his parents are Moroccan. We searched through methods we have, that our personnel have to inquire within France after it was known he was behind the attacks," a senior Moroccan government official said, as quoted by CNN.
"From that, we found that he hadn't left France, so he could prepare other attacks."
According to the news outfit, Abaaoud was linked to other foiled terror attacks. He was also reportedly connected with other jihadists.
Another key suspect linked to the Paris terror attacks, Salah Abdeslam, reportedly remains at large and the authorities are allegedly doing their best to hunt down the suspect.
New police raids have been conducted in Brussels, Belgium to target Salah Abdeslam.
