The new Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 is, according to Tech First Post, the most significant among the three devices the Chinese company recently announced.
The other two are Redmi Note 3 and Mi Air Purifier 2. The tablet comes with cool enhancements in all-metal body, luxurious design and an option for Windows 10.
The Verge said while the original Mi Pad looks like an iPhone 5c with its colorful plastic case, Mi Pad 2 is akin to the iPad mini with its all-metal construction.
The 322-gram, 6.95-mm thin Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 has a 7.9-inch display just like its predecessor. The display has a 2048 x 1536 resolution 324 ppi that is almost akin to Apple's recent iPad mini.
Under the hood, the device is powered by an Intel Atom X-Z8500 quad-core chipset, HD graphics in the Graphics Processing Unit and 2GB RAM. It will come in 16GB and 64GB variants with expandable slots up to 128GB. The Windows 10 model will have the 64GB internal storage.
A 6190mAh battery fuels the device with a promise to give 649 hours standby time, 100 hours of audio and 12.5 of multimedia. Cameras come with 8 mega pixels for the rear snapper and 5MP for the selfie shooter, just like the original Mi Pad. In the connectivity department, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 supports ac draft, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and the recent type C 1.0 reversible connector but no GPS or 4G LTE.
There are two OS options to run on the device - the MIUI and Windows 10. CEO Lei Jun of Xiaomi said the 64GB model that will run Windows 10 is competitive enough to handle gaming. It will be released next month.
The device is 38 grams lighter and thinner than its predecessor. First Post said it targets the 6.1mm thin iPad mini 4 clearly. According to Phone Arena, the device is priced $156 for the 16GB and $203 for the 64GB. Meanwhile, the 16GB iPad Mini 4 is priced $400.
