Director of Friend 2: "Apprehensive about Being Called Gangster Director"

Director Kwak Kyung Taek explained the rumor around "Friend 2," a sequel of "Friends" in 2001.

Last Friday in Konkuk University's Lotte Cinema, a press conference and production report meeting for movie "Friend 2" was held.

When first released in 2001, "Friend" mobilized 8.2 million viewers and caused the "Friend" syndrome. "Friend 2," a sequel of "Friend" in 12 years, is based in Ulsan, unlike "Friend" which was based in Busan, and presents other sights to see.

Kwak Kyung Taek said, "I've had many offers for the sequel of 'Friends.' Even people who had been in the mafia came to me and suggested to make their stories as 'Friends 2.' But I didn't I didn't want to appear as a director whose specialty is ganstars."

He added, "I went to give a talk in a police department in Ul-san a few weeks ago. When I was taking questions after the talk, an officer in charge of the gangs said, 'Why do you portray the ganstars cool in movies and make our job miserable?' I got so tense hearing it."

"Friends 2" is a story about Joon Suk, who comes out of the prison for allegedly having killed Dong Soo after 17 years, and meets Dong Soo's son, Sung Hoon.

Kwak Kyung Taek of "Friends" directed the film, and You Oh Sung, Kim Woo Bin, and Joo Jin Mo star in the film. It is to premier in November of 2013.
