Having a crush on the world's prettiest man is probably not painless, but singer-actress IU is going to give it a try.
She will play Kim Bo Tong in the KBS drama "Pretty Man." Kim Bo Tong is an ordinary but lovable girl who has had a crush on the world's prettiest man since they met in middle school. That man, Dokgo Matte, played by Jang Geun Suk, can charm any woman he wants and yet he never manages to find true love.
IU recently finished a successful run starring as Lee Soon Shin in the weekend drama "You're The Best Lee Soon Shin" and also recently released a new record. She's hardly your average girl but fans have seen that she can play the part of one.
Like the Cinderella character she played in "Dream High," you can almost expect that IU will have to undergo some kind of a transformation that brings her to Jang Geun Suk's jaded attention. Or will he recognize what's truly worthwhile in a woman without her having to turn into someone she's not? Maybe she will help him recognize that being the prettiest man in the world could be considered a kind of disability. If it's so easy to charm people, maybe his personality could use some work.
Actress Han Chae Young was also in talks to appear in this drama although it was probably not for the leading role of Kim Bo Tang. It's a stretch to think of IU as just an average girl but Han, known as the Korean Barbie doll, is far too glamorous. She may play one of the many women Dokgo Matte dates and charms.
It is also said that there will be a love triangle with ordinary Kim Bo Tang in the middle. Lee Jang Woo, who appeared in "I Do, I Do" and "Glory Jane," will play Choi David, who is assigned to follow Dokgo Matte. His kindhearted character will become the pretty man's competition in the love triangle.
The drama is based on a popular manga about the prettiest man in the world written by Cheon Hye Yong. The screenwriter Yoo Yong Ah worked on "The Miracle in Cell No. 7" and "No Breathing," the film about swimmers starring Lee Jon Suk and Seo In Guk.
The drama is being produced by Group Eight, which is responsible for a string of successful dramas including "Boys Over Flowers" and "Princess Hours."
"Pretty Boy" will be shown in November after the conclusion of "Secrets."
