Since kdrama actors command a high salary, you might just assume they have plenty of money to spend and find fun ways to spend it.
But a few kdrama actors have confessed that they don't manage their own income. They let their parents deal with their finances. And a few, who are no longer teens, even live on an allowance.
For example, at age 26 Lee Min Ho may have little in common with the teenager he plays in "The Heirs" except perhaps for his financial situation. He still gets an allowance. When interviewed about the state of his finances, he said, "My parents manage my income, so I know nothing about it."
Joo Won, 26, is another actor who gets a set amount of money doled out to him.
"I get about $700 from my parents every month," said the star of "Bridal Mask" and "Good Doctor."
Since the actor, who can be seen in the film "Catch Me," also makes money as a model and appearing on variety shows, this may seem like a small amount of money to get. He did admit that when it was his turn to treat fellow cast members from the variety show "1 Night, 2 Days," they were considerate of his financial situation and only ordered inexpensive items.
But if that seems like roughing it, he remembers making do with much less.
"When I was doing musicals, I just had enough money for transportation and food," said Joo Won. "Whenever I had a drink with other cast members, I couldn't go home because there were no more buses when the get-together ended."
Fortunately, the acting offers keep coming in and he can now afford to take a taxi home.
Another actor who lets his family manage his money is Hyun Bin, the star of "Secret Garden" and "My Lovely Kim Sam Soon." Hyun, 31, recently revealed that he had several bank accounts under his name. He was just not sure how many there were or what was in them.
"I don't remember the exact number, but I think it's over 10," he said.
On an episode of the SBS show "Good Morning," he said, "My parents look after my finances since I'm not married yet. My father is doing a great job."
Hyun Bin will earn another paycheck for his parents to manage when he stars as King Jeongjo in "The King's Wrath," which will be released next year.
