For the very first time in his career, singer and actor Ok Taecyeon will be starring in a historical period movie! According to 51K, Taecyeon's agency, the actor is making his very first try in the historical genre through the film titled "Han San."
"Han San" is said to be helmed by Director Kim Han-min, who is widely recognized in writing and directing award-winning period films like "Roaring Currents." His latest film titled "Battle of Hansan Island" is about a historical battle between Korea and Japan in the year 1592.
Taecyeon will portray the character of a Korean navy soldier. Actors including Park Hae-il, Byun Yo-han, and Kim Sung-kyu are also confirmed to be part of the cast. "Han San" is scheduled to begin its production in the latter half of this year.
Act-dol Taecyeon was born in Seoul, South Korea. When he was ten, he immigrated to Bedford, Massachusetts, a small town located in Greater Boston, USA, together with his parents and older sister Jihyen. For seven years, they lived overseas and attended Bedford High School. There, he was a member of the Chess Club, Jazz Band, JV Soccer Team and National Honor Society.
Then, Taecyeon decided to pursue a career in Korea, so he transferred to Young Dong High School in Seoul and then studied Business Administration at Dankook University. He also attended Korea University Graduate School of International Studies. He is fluent in three languages, namely English, Korean, and Japanese.
While surfing the internet, Taecyeon's sister noticed a promotion of the JYP Entertainment audition, in which she persuaded him to join. Taecyeon was a bit hesitant at first but eventually agreed to participate.
After a week, he was selected as the final 35 auditionees and received a call to go to South Korea to partake further in the competition. Taecyeon opted to become a model at first. However, the judges suggested he try dancing and singing. In the competition, he was part of the dozen finalists to compete at the show Superstar Survival. Unfortunately, he was the very first contestant to leave the show.
Then, in 2008, Taecyeon debuted with the boy band 2PM after taking part in MNET's "Hot Blood Men," wherein 13 participants underwent extensive trainees to be part of the group One Day. 2PM released their first EP "Hottest Time of The Day," but it was their second EP "2:00 PM Time For Change" that heightened their career.
FujiTV announced way back in September 2011 that Taecyeon was going to become a regular on their Sunday drama "Boku to Star no 99 Nichi," together with Japanese actor "Nishijima Hidetoshi" and South Korean actress Kim Tae Hee. This was considered his first regular role in a Japanese drama.
In February 2013, in the Global Edition of the reality show "We Got Married," it was declared that Taecyeon would be paired with the Taiwanese actress Emma Wu. In the same year, Taecyeon premiered his romantic film, "Marriage Blue," which is his film debut. To top it off, he composed two songs for the soundtrack of the film.
Fast forward to the year 2020, Taecyeon starred in the mystery drama titled "The Game: Towards Zero" where he reunited with Lee Yeon Hee, whom he worked with in the 2013 film "Marriage Blue."
