In September 2019, it was reported that actor Yoo Seung Ho adopted two cats, namely Dori and Gomi, from the foster care of gabsupasture, a well-known cat rescuer and YouTuber. The YouTuber, who had over 500,000 subscribers, operated the channel while also pursuing his dreams to become a veterinarian in the future.
As seen in Yoo Seung Ho's Instagram posts, fans are assured that the kittens have found their perfect home. Netizens also praised gabsupasture for doing a good job in saving the cats and the actor for adopting them.
However, on May 7, it was reported that gabsupasture has been abusing the animals and starving them to gain more views and to create a more lucrative content on his channel.
There was an online exposé that included shocking screenshots from the YouTuber's messages on KakaoTalk with his editor and others. There was evidence that gabsupasture got the cats from the pet shops instead of actually rescuing them. And not only that, the YouTuber also allegedly neglected care and starved the animals before and after filming his video entries.
Here are some of the conversation content seen in the screenshot:
YouTuber: I bought a hamster for the video and the cat bit the head off, it died.
Editor: Down the toilet it goes.
YouTuber: LOL.
YouTuber: I know it's inhumane, but Gomi and Dori are working after I starved them.
YouTuber: They realized what I want after I didn't look into them for a day. I should start leaving them more often.
Editor: I see Noru is working, too.
Channel A also unveiled more KakaoTalk chat exchanges between the YouTuber and his pal.
The YouTuber texted, stating that the actor is "stealing his family" (the kittens) Gomi and Dori. He went on and stated that Yoo Seung Ho "is an entitled celebrity who gets what he wants." Further, he accused the actor of being forceful in the process of adoption since Yoo Seung Ho declined the suggestion to include the adoption on a video to be uploaded on his channel.
In the conversation, the YouTuber's acquaintance commented that the kittens used to bring a lot of views in his videos, which means they gained a lot of money using the kittens.
Gabsupasture's fans and subscribers turned their back and unfollowed him upon knowing this ugly truth. Korean netizens were also appalled by the animal cruelty committed by a person who is studying to become a veterinarian.
As concerns from the fans as well as the online users arose, Yoo Seung Ho gave his response through an Instagram post that the kittens' names have been changeed so that there will be no further connection to the YouTube user. The actor also pleaded to please stop "trying to make money off of animals."
Gabsupasture then uploaded a video of him, trying to explain his side of the story. However, the netizens were unconvinced, and the YouTuber flatlined his channel - he has remained silent ever since.
