Rapper turned artist Hoony Hoon reveals shocking news about the "Parasite" movie's famous painting.
In his recent interview with MBC's "Radio Star," the 41-year-old artist shared his experience working alongside the award-winning director behind the thriller film, Bong Joon Ho, and art director Lee Ha Joon.
The rapper recalled how the renowned filmmaker asked him to draw a human being but illustrated as a chimpanzee.
During the process of making the artwork, he realized that the director, whose famous works includes "Okja," that scored a major award at the 70th Cannes Film Festival, was a perfectionist and described him as a very "detailed" person.
Moreover, Hoony Hoon revealed that reaching the final stage was a tough process.
"He's a detailed genius. I gave him 10 different drawings, and in the end, he asked me to draw another one of two of them combined. At first, he said he'd leave it up to me, but he kept asking me to change them. At one point, I thought he should just draw it himself," he shared.
Fortunately, he got a nod from Bong Joon Ho and was happy with the outcome of his work.
With this, the "Parasite" director loved it so much and even used it as one of the highlights of the film. It was referred to as Da Song's drawing, played by child star, Jung Hyeon-jun.
In the movie, Ki-Jung, portrayed by Park So Dam, who poses as a fake art teacher, hinted that the child might have schizophrenia because of the painting's unusual shape.
During the interview, Hoony Hoon revealed that the price of the said painting was around $8 million.
"I heard a company offered to pay 100 billion KRW (about 89.1 million USD) for it," he shared.
Unfortunately, because of contractual issues such as copyright, the iconic "Parasite" painting can't be sold and will be part of the movie's collection.
"I was surprised. But it can't be sold. According to the contract, Bong Joon Ho's production company has the copyright. Although I own it, it's a part of the film's prop collection," the rapper explained.
