Following the acting success of T.O.P., the other members of BigBang find that they are more receptive to the idea of acting. And the latest member to talk about the possibility is Taeyang, who this week released the hit single "Ringa Linga."
Rapper T.O.P., who played the psycho killer in the drama "Iris," appeared in the films "Nineteen," 71: Into The Fire" and most recently "The Commitment." He's the first member of the group to devote serious time to an acting career but odds are he will not be the last.
This week it was announced that band member Seungri is set to appear in "Youbicoi-A Message To You," a Japanese drama about first love. He will play a Korean overseas student and has been busy recently perfecting his Japanese pronunciation.
Recently YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk praised G-Dragon's performance in the music video for "Crooked" and said the k-pop idol could also be an actor.
"G-Dragon was a great actor," Yang said of the music video. "He actually cried for a scene while acting."
Will G-Dragon get his chance to act before his best friend and fellow band member Taeyang? When Taeyang met with the press this week, he praised T.O.P.'s film performance and spoke about how it inspired him.
"I watched "The Commitment" in which T.O.P. is the main lead and his acting was really convincing," said Taeyang. "I did not feel like he was my fellow group member at the time."
He and the other BigBang members attended the film's V.I.P. premiere and cheered T.O.P. on. In an interview following the premiere, Taeyang admitted he was quite caught up in the movie and identified with the character T.O.P. played.
"During the time he spent searching for his sister, I watched and waited with him," said Taeyang.
Could Taeyang do a good job of acting?
"If I was ordered to do so, I think I would be no joke," he said.
He's leaning more toward films than dramas as he rarely watches television, except for the occasional variety show. He's even seeing movies in a way he never saw them before.
"Before, I really had no interest and even now I don't have that much interest, but these days when I watch a movie at home, I realize that movies can make me feel emotions like music does," said Taeyang.
He's not sure what kind of roles he would be best at.
"I don't think I'd be bad if I acted a role that I could easily express and that matches me well," he said.
