4 Exciting and Star-Studded Korean Sci-Fi Films to Anticipate from the Second Half of 2021 to the First Quarter of 2022

Looking for new genres of movies to watch? Then the remaining months of 2021 will be allotted to spoiling you about the much-awaited Korean films to be released in the fourth quarter of the year. Others might be pushed through until the early months of 2022.

Some have already enjoyed the box office hit movies "Escape from Mogadishu" and "Sinkhole" that made impressive counts of moviegoers just a week after it premiered in August of this year.

Just like these two awesome films, these upcoming Korean movies are expected to break other records once they officially meet the viewers.

Jung-E

A sci-fi film helmed by Korean director Yeon Sang Ho described as someone who is redefining the future of Koren films. Some of his projects attained recognition in and outside South Korea, namely the apocalypse thriller movie "Train to Busan," its sequel "Peninsula."

His new film "Jung-E" will occur in the 22nd century, where climate changes have made Earth uninhabitable, and people are spending their lives living in a man-made shelter. Unexpected break out is set to happen, and that will result in the success of brain cloning technology of the known robot Jung-E.

Though there is no definite date yet when it will be released, one thing is for sure, "Jung-E" is slated to premiere on Netflix.

Wonderland

Another sci-fi movie will be dominating the second half of 2021. "Wonderland" tells the journey of a group who use artificial intelligence service to communicate with their loved ones who are already dead.

Aside from the fresh concept, this movie is packed with a star-studded cast, namely, Park Bo Gum, Bae Suzy, Gong Yoo, Choi Woo Shik, Jung Yu Mi, Kim Tae Yong, and Tang Wei. "Wonderland" is said to premiere in October.

Concrete Utopia

This disaster-thriller film depicts the story of survivors who experience a devastating earthquake in Seoul. "Concrete Utopia" will be directed by Um Tae Hwa. Three of the biggest names in entertainment, namely Lee Byung Hun, Park Bo Young, and Park Seo Joon, are the main cast of the movie.

Since Park Seo Joon went to the US for his Hollywood debut, there was a delay in the release of "Concrete Utopia." But based on the previous media reports in June, the movie is set to premiere in the last month of 2021.

Alien

Another star-studded cast will have its premiere this 2021. "Alien" is a two-part film that will center the story between the people living in the Goryeo period and aliens living in the present in South Korea, who visit the earth to look for a mysterious sword.

The production began in March 2020 and wrapped in April 2021. Kim Woo Bin, Kim Tae Ri, Ryu Jun Yeol, So Ji Sub, and more are all part of the cast. The first installment of "Alien" to possibly hit the cinemas sometime in December.
