When Rain was discharged from the army in July, it seemed as if any hint of scandal he faced while serving might be forgotten. He recently toured Japan and has plans to star in a new Bruce Willis film "The Prince."
But a recent complaint filed against the singer and actor may interfere with the plans. The complaint may involve Rain in yet another investigation of improper conduct while he served his tour of duty as a celebrity recruit.
During his two-year service, his behavior twice came into question. Rain, also known as Jung Jo Hoon, was reported for taking too many vacation days from active duty when his frequent visits to girlfriend actress Kim Tae Hee made the news. As a result, Rain received a week's probation.
Then, shortly before he was due to be discharged, he was involved in another investigation that also concerned singers Se7en and Sangchu of Mighty Mouth. After the three ate and dined together, Se7en and Sangchu visited adult massage parlors and were caught by reporters. Rain was not with them and was cleared in that investigation.
Even after Rain's discharge, the complaints continued.
Yet another mini-scandal arose when someone accused Rain of not filing the correct papers for the PR work he did as a celebrity recruit. But the military responded that the missing paperwork was a minor and insignificant technicality. Now someone has filed a formal complaint with the Seoul Prosecutor's Office. The complaint stated that "While serving as a celebrity recruit, Rain violated military laws and regulations and also took frequent vacations."
The prosecutor's office is taking the complaint seriously but has issued no summons.
"We will examine the documents related to the complaint, and if necessary we will summon Rain and those around him for an investigation," said a representative.
The citizen filed the complaint after watching a current affairs program about celebrity recruits leaving camp without notice and visiting places such as massage parlors.
Rain, who previously starred in the drama "Full House," entered active military service in 2011. He became an assistant instructor of the 5th Division at the Recruit Training Center, and transferred to the Ministry of Defense's Public Relations Department six months later.
Rain's agency was surprised by the news of a new investigation.
"We first heard of the news through the news report," said a Cube DC representative. "Neither Rain nor his agency were ever contacted about this matter. We will have to see how the proceedings shape up. It's too early to say anything."
What do you think of the latest complaint filed against Rain? Is it unfair or long overdue?
