Netflix’s ‘Squid Game,’ ‘DP’ Earn Most Nods at 1st Blue Dragon Series Awards

The first-ever Blue Dragon Series Awards (BSA) has officially announced the finalists. Scheduled on July 19 at 7 p.m. KST at Paradise City in Incheon, the upcoming ceremony honors the evolving entertainment industry through various streaming platforms, such as Disney+, seezn, Apple TV+, Netflix, WATCHA, wavve, Kakao TV, Coupang Play, and TVING.

With this, the organizers unveiled the 12 categories for the upcoming ceremony.

Netflix's 'Squid Game' and 'D.P' Receive the Most Nominations at Blue Dragon Series Awards 2022

According to EDaily, the nominees are those domestic dramas, entertainment shows released via streaming platforms from May 1, 2021, to April 30, 2022

The organizers selected the nominees through a survey conducted by viewers and evaluation by Sports Chosun Entertainment reporters.

The categories include Best Picture, Male and Female Leading Actor, Male and Female Supporting Actor, Male and Female Rookie of the Year Award, the Best Picture Award, Male and Female Entertainer Award, Male and Female New Artist Award' and Popular Star Award.

Interestingly, two of Netflix's content scored the most nods at the Blue Dragon Series Awards 2022.

"Squid Game," which stars Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, Jung Ho Yeon, Wi Ha Joon, and more, were nominated for five categories.

The blockbuster series, directed by Hwang Dong Hyuk will be competing for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best New Actress.

Meanwhile, another Netflix content also received multiple nominations. "D.P.", which stars Jung Hae In and Goo Kyo Hwan, earned nods for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best New Actor.

On the other hand, "SNL Korea" dominated the entertainment category with four nominations.

The comedy and variety show is selected to compete for Best Picture, Male Entertainer, and Male and Female New Artist Award.

'Squid Game' and 'D.P.' Renewed for Season 2

Apart from their multiple nominations for Blue Dragon Series Awards 2022, "Squid Game" and "D.P" will also return for another season.

After months of discussion, following the success of the psychological thriller series, the Hwang Dong Hyuk-directed Kdrama officially got the green light for season 2.

On June 13, Netflix dropped an intriguing teaser for the much-awaited "Squid Game 2."

Featuring the iconic "Red Light, Green Light" game, the streaming giant announced on Instagram that "Squid game" is "coming back for Season 2!"

In addition, the director also released a message to fans expressing his gratitude for the support towards "Squid Games."

Moreover, Hwang Dong Hyuk also announced that Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun's character, will return for season 2. Surprisingly, he also teased viewers that Gong Yoo's character, the salesman in the suit with ddakji might also return.

On the other hand, the action-packed series "D.P" also got renewed for season 2.

Jung Hae In, Goo Kyo Hwan, Kim Sung Kyun, and Son Seok Koo will reprise their roles.

Interestingly, "D.P." Season 2 also welcomes additional characters played by Ji Jin Hee and Kim Ji Hyun.
