Is It True? KBS Abuses Law For Its Own Benefit
Based on the reports, the series were produced by outside production companies and only signed broadcasting rights contracts with KBS.
Before, broadcasting companies produced dramas themselves, but due to the demand and growing popularity of K-contents worldwide, more external producers have sold broadcasting rights to other media companies (third-party companies) after producing them.
As stated in the copyright act, broadcast fees are transferred by the production company and KBS is reportedly asserting the rerun fees should be paid by the production company and not the network.
In addition to the report, it has been said that the broadcasting station is abusing the law for its financial benefit.
Meanwhile, KBS is yet to release their statement regarding the issue.
The other two networks SBS and MBC have reportedly paid rerun fees regardless of the source of the production.
