Park Bo Young, Yoo Jae Suk & Jo Se Ho's Remark in 'Pinggyego' Creates Chaos

After almost three years of showbiz hiatus, Park Bo Young welcomed the entertainment world again with new works. Following her movie return with "Concrete Utopia," the actress is busy having guest appearances to promote her new Netflix series "Daily Dose of Sunshine."

One of her recent talk show appearances was in Yoo Jae Suk and Jo Se Ho's "Pinggyego."

In the episode released on November 3 on Ddeun Ddeun's YouTube Channel, the actress along with the hosts sat for a fun interview interaction.

However, just after the video was uploaded the show already received hate from the audience, particularly from K-Netizens. It has been said that it was due to the changed subtitles, which gave inappropriate meaning to some Korean terms.

'Pinggyego's' Editing Team Under Fire for Change of Subtitles

The three referred to a baby stroller with the Korean word "yumo-cha."

Later on, in the subtitles, the production team changed it to "yua-cha," which according to a source can be interpreted to have sexist connotations as "yumo," which refers to mothers or nannies.

On the other hand, "yua" is said to be more neutral as it means "baby" while "cha" simply means car or mobile unit.

It has been said that the original term reinforces the subconscious assumption that strollers would be pushed by women, ergo, babies/kids would be taken care of by the mothers.

Due to the change of subtitles, it became an issue among K-Netz, particularly men, and even demanded the editing team to change the translations.

Meanwhile, other netizens who had come across the issue expressed their disbelief and wondered if the small matter even warranted controversy. They questioned why people were angry and making it a big issue.

K-Netz Express Mixed Reactions Toward the Subtitle Issue

  • "They're being like that because of the subtitles? They really are making it a big deal."
  • "Can't believe there are almost 130K men in 2023 who are pissed at a show because these men want women to be the only caregivers."
  • "This is seriously getting bad."
  • "The answer to why we have low birth rates is here."
  • "This is why the younger generation wants to live alone."
  • Meanwhile, Park Bo Young returns to the small screen with her newest Netflix K-drama "Daily Dose of Sunshine."
