Lee Gi Kwang talked about the influence of tvN's K-drama "Marry My Husband" and the controversy he faced while portraying the character.
Starting the year with a bang, the webtoon-based K-drama brought excitement to viewers as it featured a unique kind of revenge story and, at the same time, showcased a roster of talented stars.
From lead stars Park Min Young, Lee Yi Kyung, Na In Woo, and Song Ha Yoon, it's no doubt why "Marry My Husband" is among the most talked-about Korean series in the first quarter of the year.
Interestingly, Lee Gi Kwang revealed the advantages of joining the hit K-drama.
Lee Gi Kwang Instagram Followers Increased Thanks to 'Marry My Husband'
During his appearance on the talk show "Reckless Guys," the actor shared that his social media following significantly increased during the broadcast of "Marry My Husband."
Lee Gi Kwang tells the hosts, "I haven't done anything," but adds that his Instagram has increased by 40,000 and jokingly says, "If only it had increased more..."
Currently, Lee Gi Kwang's Instagram has 1.4 million followers, and most of his posts are work-related.
Other than the actor, rookie actress Choi Gyu Ri previously revealed that her Instagram quadrupled thanks to "Marry My Husband."
In an interview, she said that she only had 2,000 followers before the drama broadcast but now has more than 721,000 and counting.
"Almost all of my Instagram followers are foreign," she added.
In the tvN K-drama, he takes on the role of Baek Eun Ho, Kang Ji Won's (Park Min Young) classmate and first love.
After college, he focused on working in the food and beverage industry, and because of his Michelin-level skills, he was able to work as the head chef at the Werther fine dining restaurant.

Apart from portraying Baek Eun Ho as the head chef, his character is also a native of Busan; hence, the accent.
However, during the broadcast, viewers called out the drama and criticized why Baek Eun Ho speaks different.
On social media, viewers expressed their disappointment with Lee Gi Kwang's acting, especially in how he delivered his lines.
Unfortunately, netizens flocked to the online community, criticizing the actor and saying that they were not convinced by his acting. They also pointed out that the forced accent is hard to listen to.
As for Lee Gi Kwang, he told the host that working with a character with a heavy accent was not as easy as it looked.
Being a Gwangju native, the actor said that the Busan dialect is "completely different," adding, "Because it's different, I think it came out a little mixed and mysterious."
