Kim Go Eun and Lee Do Hyun's movie "Exhuma" continues to garner favorable reviews. After it officially hit the big screen, the occult mystery film remains unbeatable at the Korean box office.
'Exhuma' Becomes First 2024 Film to Reach 4 Million Mark
In a report, the Korean Film Council announced that "Exhuma" hit the 4 million mark after having its premiere on February 22.
For 8 days straight, the star-studded movie has maintained the top ranking, making it the first film released in 2024 to reach the 4 million mark.
To recall, the team behind the movie recently celebrated a remarkable milestone after surpassing a huge number of viewers.
SHOWBOX officially announced on February 28 that "Exhuma" reached the 3 million mark in less than a week from its debut.
To honor this, lead stars Kim Go Eun, Choi Min Sik, Yoo Hae Jin, Kim Jae Chul, and "Exhuma" director Jang Jae Hyun were all smiles as they posed for the celebratory photo.
Is 'Exhuma' Worth Watching?
Veering away from their usual romance drama roles, Kim Go Eun and Lee Do Hyun surprised viewers with their remarkable transformation in "Exhuma."
An occult-mystery film directed by Jang Jae Hyun of "The Priests" and "Svaha: The Sixth Finger," the story depicts the journey of two exorcists, a young rising shaman named Hwa Rim (Kim Go Eun) and Bong Gil (Lee Do Hyun).
Joining them are mortician Ko Young Geun (Yoo Hae Jin) and feng shui expert Kim Sang Deok (Choi Min Sik), who visits mysterious graves and looks into paranormal events in exchange for a hefty sum of money.
In addition to its current standing in the Korean box office, "Exhuma" was invited to the Forum section of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival along with other local movies such as Ma Dong Seok's "The Roundup: Punishment" for the Special Gala category as well as the animation "Circle" by Jung Yu Mi for the Berlinale Shorts 2024 section.
Amid the success of the movie, Kim Go Eun hopes that "the success continues" for "Exhuma."
In an interview with a media outlet, the actress said that she was thrilled after getting an offer to star in the upcoming movie.
In addition, Kim Go Eun shared that she has been a fan of Director Jang's work since the short film "The 12th Assistant Priest," which was also connected to his movie "The Priests."
As for her role, the actress said that she also sought out real shamans and asked them about certain movements and rituals to perfectly portray the character.
"Also, when shooting the scenes involving shaman rituals, I confirmed all my movements with the shamans. I received messages, calls, and video calls about how to move my hands when chanting the scriptures."
"Exhuma" is Kim Go Eun's return to the big screen after the 2022 movie "Hero," while this is Lee Do Hyun's first lead role on the big screen.
