Kim Go Eun's movie "Exhuma" is in hot waters once again after an online post criticizing the film went viral.

Amid the huge success of the thriller mystery film, a post claimed that the film was "mocking" Chinese people.

Chinese Netizens Accused 'Exhuma' of 'Insult and Humiliation'

In a report, Chinese netizens accused "Exhuma" of "insulting" their country, referring to the characters written on the actors' faces.

The user explained what it meant in China, which is "considered an insulting and humiliating action."

"I found it funny that Koreans drew Chinese characters that they don't even understand on their faces," the user questioned.

Apart from this, the post claimed that "only criminals had letters drawn on their faces" during ancient times.

Meanwhile, the outlet also cited the responses of Korean netizens, who expressed a negative reaction to the claims of Chinese netizens.

"Hanja (Chinese characters used in the writing of Korean) is not Chinese."

"Does anyone care about how people use the English alphabet? "

"People who watch movies illegally, do you guys have the right to speak? "

Despite the disappointment of Chinese people, "Exhuma '' continues to rake in achievements both locally and internationally.

'Exhuma' Remains Unbeatable at the Box Office

Headlined by Kim Go Eun and Lee Do Hyun, along with veteran stars Choi Min Sik and Yoo Hae Jin, "Exhuma" is an occult movie that depicts the story of a group of individuals who track mysterious graves for a whopping sum of money.

Kim Go Eun and Lee Do Hyun took on the roles of shamans Lee Hwa Rim and Yoon Bong Gil, who are exorcists. They are joined by mortician Ko Young Geun, played by Yoo Hae Jin, and feng shui master Kim Sang Deok, portrayed by Choi Min Sik.

According to film distributor SHOWBOX, "Exhuma" has surpassed 8 million moviegoers for its third week of premiere.

The new success marks the first movie in eight years to hit an 8 million mark at the box office.

In addition to this, Kim Go Eun's movie became the first Korean occult horror film to hit 7 million viewers.

From the box office, "Exhuma" will also reach a wider scope as the Korean movie will be available in 133 countries.

This is on top of the invitations from various film festivals, such as the 2024 Hong Kong International Film Festival and the 26th Udine Far East Film Festival.

Lee Do Hyun on 'Exhuma': 'It was challenging and a bit intimidating'

In an interview with a local media outlet, Lee Do Hyun shared his honest thoughts about his big-screen debut.

According to him, it is a project that he feels is challenging and intimidating in a way since it will be shown on the big screen.

"In a way, it was a significant challenge for me and a bit intimidating since I hadn't experienced it before."

As for his transformation, Lee Do Hyun "loved" his character since Bong Gil is an illustration of a Gen Z shaman.
