"Chicken Nugget" director shared the story behind how luck helped him in securing Kim Yoo Jung's appearance in the new Netflix series.
Director Lee Byung Hun Spills Tea About Casting Ahn Jae Hong in 'Chicken Nugget'
The lead cast of the forthcoming drama "Chicken Nugget" Ryu Seung Ryung, Ahn Jae Hong, and Kim Yoo Jung attended the series' media conference held at Lotte Cinema in Seoul on March 13.
Director Lee Byung Hun was also present at the event to talk about the new show.
After he played a memorable role in "Mask Girl," Ahn Jae Hong is making his Netflix return with another quirky character. According to him, it felt like the webtoon "Chicken Nugget" was written for him.
Ahn Jae Hong finds a lot of similarities between him and his character. He expressed how eager he is to bring the character to life exactly as it appears in the comic.
Director Lee confessed that he was hesitant to cast Ahn in the project,
"I almost felt bad offering him the role since he's getting handsome these days. Thankfully, 'Mask Girl' came out and eased my conscience a little." He added that the male star seemed to fit for the role.
How Lee Byung Hun Get Kim Yoo Jung's Attention to Play as 'Chicken Nugget'
When talking about casting Kim Yoo Jung, Lee Byung Hun said that it seemed like luck was on his side when he passed the script to the actress' agency.
He humorously said, "How could I even ask someone like Kim Yoo Jung to play a chicken nugget?." Lee went on, "I sent the script to her agency with a slightly crazy pitch, but it turned out to be a stroke of luck. Even though it's listed as a special appearance, she got a significant role. There's even running and wirework involved."
The actress shared her side expressing her enthusiasm for joining the project.
"The script had me laughing out loud. I have always been a fan of Director Lee's work, especially 'Be Melodramatic.' I was grateful to be able to participate because I thought it would be great to work with him."
Ryu Seung Ryung, on the other hand, also shared his interest in the project after seeing its unique premise it.
"The logline was fresh. 'My daughter turns into a chicken nugget.' I had to know what happened next." He also praised Kim Yoo Jung for her dedication to her character.
Furthermore, catch "Chicken Nugget" on Netflix beginning March 15.
