Lee Jae Wook talked about his preparation and how he gets into his character.
With all his previous K-dramas, the South Korean heartthrob continues to prove that he can do different types of genres and be versatile when it comes to roles.
During his interview with Singles Korea, the 25-year-old celebrity dished on his experience in the industry, and revealed his unique trait whenever he has a new role to play.
Lee Jae Wook Talks About His K-Drama Comeback 'The Impossible Heir'
Lee Jae Wook garnered huge success after joining "Alchemy of Souls" in 2022 as Jang Uk. Then, his next lead role was the thriller-political K-drama "The Imposible Heir," where he worked alongside Lee Jun Young and Hong Su Zu.
Taking on the role of Han Tae Oh, Lee Jae Wook transformed into an intellectually gifted friend, Kang In Ha (Lee Jun Young), a third-generation chaebol who persuaded Tae Oh to join him and take over their conglomerate.
According to him, his character is someone who looks "fierce on the inside but hides his emotions on the outside and restrains himself as much as possible."
When portraying a certain character, Lee Jae Wook said that he tries to separate the character from his daily life.
"Of course, after filming a scene that involves a lot of emotion, it's a bit difficult even after the camera turns off, but I don't always have to hold on to the character's emotions."
Since his debut in 2018, Lee Jae Wook has made a name for himself. However, he admitted that he still feels "nervous and anxious" on set, especially during the first filming day.
"I constantly worry about whether I captured the character the director had in mind, whether I was in sync well, or whether it was the character I wanted to portray."
Interestingly, he has a unique way of immersing himself in his character.
Lee Jae Wook Matches His Perfumes to His On-Screen Characters
According to Lee Jae Wook, he changes his perfume everytime he has a new character to portray. The reason for this is to set his mood and have this "sense of belongingness" to the character.
"I think it is a device that creates excitement about the new character and a sense of belonging to the character by choosing a perfume that matches the character."
He once told a different outlet that he chose Le Labo's Santal 33 for his cameo role in "Death's Game."
Lee Jae Wook explained that playing Cho Tae Sang felt like "leather to him" because of the character's rough vibe and complex aspects since he lived a very tough life.
What's Next for Lee Jae Wook?
After "The Impossible Heir," he is set to return to the small screen for the novel-based series "Hong Rang."
Transforming into a prince who disappeared when he was young, Hong Rang is ready to find his true identity.
Joining Lee Jae Wook are Jo Bo Ah, Jung Ga Ram, Kim Jae Wook, Uhm Ji Won, and more as lead stars.
