Lee Joo Bin 'Didn't Expect to Gain Recognition' for Her 'Queen of Tears' Role

In an interview with a news outlet, Lee Joo Bin looked back at her humble beginnings, from joining an all-girl K-pop group to modeling, and the start of her acting career.

According to the 34-year-old beauty, it had been her dream to become an actress, but at the time she "wasn't that serious about it." All she knew was that she wanted to become a celebrity. Not until she entered the university and was recruited to become part of the girl group Rainbow.

Unfortunately, Lee Joo Bin left the group just before her debut. Because of her eagerness to reach her dream, Lee Joo Bin tried acting and made her debut at 27.

"I have a belief. 'Let's debut and then quit later'. I tried auditions for 10 years because it was unfair to think, 'I won't be able to do it' without starting. I didn't expect to gain recognition, but I held on with faith in myself."

Lee Joo Bin's first on-screen appearance was the 2017 K-drama "Whisper," followed by "Be Melodramatic" in 2019, "She Would Never Know" in 2021, and more.

She received global fame for her portrayal of Yun Mi Seon in "Money Heist Korea," but viewers had a different perception of her when they saw how versatile she is in acting through "Queen of Tears."

According to the actress, the tvN K-drama came like a gift to her because she was able to change her image as an actress by embracing the villain role.

"Queen of Tears" introduced Lee Joo Bin as the daughter-in-law of the Queens, Cheon Da Hye.

In the interview, the actress expressed how happy she is with the outcome of the K-drama since it was her "first time doing a character that deceives others" and she never knew that her character "would be hated too much."

In "Queen of Tears," Lee Joo Bin's character was often wearing stylish outfits.

However, she revealed that playing the role of Cheon Da Hye pushed her to purchase luxury clothes for the first time.

"At the beginning of the drama, the viewers should not suspect that Dahye would cheat, so I decided to focus on her styling. I bought luxury clothes, imagining myself to be a Chaebol daughter-in-law. I did get sponsored clothes, but I also bought some myself."

Other than luxury clothes, Lee Joo Bin also purchased a car in 2023 after using public transportation for years.
