IU's Cannes Film Festival experience in 2022 was brought to light after fellow Korean star YoonA faced a similar incident after attending this year's prestigious ceremony.
In the video circulating on social media, the Girls' Generation member was caught off guard after an unexpected encounter with a female security guard.
The singer-actress graced the famous staircase to showcase her Monique Lhuillier pink strapless silk gown, paired with Roger Vivier Choc Strass platform sandals and Qeelin accessories.
However, as she moved to the top part of the staircase, Yoona was approached by a lady guard, asking her to move.
In the video uploaded by netizens, the woman was seen keeping her arm outstretched, which made the K-pop star difficult to move and even wave or pose for the camera.
As seen in the clip, YoonA was taken aback by the incident, which made her uncomfortable during the interaction.
Apart from the "Big Mouth" star, former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland and Dominican actor Massiel Taveras had the same incident with the same person.
Rowland was spotted having a heated interaction with the female security guard. She claimed that it was racial discrimination, noting that other individuals who "did not look quite like me" were not treated in the same way on the red carpet, per The Daily Mail.
The same went for Massiel Taveras, who also clashed with the same person who confronted the foreigner Destiny's Child member. The Dominican actress wanted to unveil her long train, which featured the image of Jesus on it.
However, like the two celebrities, she was caught off guard after the female security stopped her.
What Happened to IU at the Cannes Film Festival 2022?
As the public calls out the racial discrimination at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, IU's experience in 2022 resurfaced on social media.
The singer-actress attended the event along with her co-star in the movie "Broker."
During the movie's world premiere, IU was spotted talking to veteran actors Song Kang Hoo and Lee Joo Young when a French influencer, Maria Travel, bumped the Korean star and didn't even apologize for it.
The clip at the 75th Cannes Film Festival immediately went viral, with fans expressing how upset they were to see the said influencer shoulder IU.
Following a major backlash from angry netizens and fans, Maria Travel shared a DM she sent to IU, which she posted on her Instagram story and contained a message reaching out to her.
According to her, she "never meant to push her and did it by mistake" since the security guards told her to move faster.
However, despite her post, fans remain unconvinced that it is a proper apology.
